The Reiki Business

The business side of running a Reiki Practice

Reiki?  Business???

Surely a confliction in terms?  How can a pure and simple energy sure as Reiki be spoken about in terms of business??

For many, including myself, Reiki is a way of life.  For most, including myself, working is a way of life.

In a perfect world your 'love' i.e. Reiki would be your 'work'.  Most of us need to work to live and here I talk a little about how Reiki is starting to become a business for some.

In line with National Occupational Standards and Voluntary Self Regulation I am starting to include 'The Reiki Business' in my Reiki training - for those students who want to- or feel drawn to - go down that route.  As I keep stressing - it is not the Reiki that is changing it is the way we present Reiki to this ever-changing high tech environment we find ourselves in.  Reiki students have the choice on how they wish to have Reiki in their lives; there will always be choice.

To be continued once I get my thoughts together......

I'm still thinking...

One thing I should mention here is Practitioner insurance.
Insurance is an expense and one train of thought is 'why do we need insurance if Reiki is totally non-invasive and can do no harm?'  Well, it's not the Reiki you would be insuring against but Professional Indemnity, Medical Malpractice and Public/Product Liability.
The Reiki Connection has a 'block' insurance with Balens Ltd which is made available to all TRC members

As we go into 2009 I think we will start to feel the effects of the huge amount of work that has been going on behind the scenes with regards to Voluntary Self Regulation.  As you may know, I am involved in the newly formed Reiki Council (RC) and the new RC web site is in the process of being written.  It has been a long haul getting this far and there is still discontent amongst some Reiki Practitioners (and in the other Complementary Therapies involved come to that) regarding VSR.  I have found it an amazing experience to be involved in the meetings and one very good thing to come out of this is the co-operation between the varying Reiki 'organisations'.  So much so that in a recent meeting with the Government appointed 'Skills for Health' where the re-vamping of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for 'therapies' has been the agenda, the Reiki group (not only members of the Reiki Council) have been in total agreement with the proposals.  The NOS has been re-visited and it is proposed that there will be generic NOS with each therapy/practice having its own appendage.  This is so much easier and clearer than the original NOS and is expected to be available for general consultation early in 2009.  As soon as it is available I will post a notice on this site.

Another thing that has started to happen is that national organisations are starting to ask what qualifications/registrations they should be looking for in practitioners/therapists when an arm of their organisation is involved in CAM for any reason.  I believe that this is the reason practitioners/therapists should be made very aware of the current/forthcoming climate with regards to treating members of the public.

This brings me on to my final point - once again.

This is Voluntary Self Regulation and I think there will be many practitioners/therapists out there who already have an established clientele who see no need for VSR.  That is their choice and I am sure that they will carry on giving excellent treatments as they have in the past.
