The Reiki Story

 Reiki is a

‘Spiritually Guided Universal Life Force Energy’

Reiki is a pure and simple ancient healing art that has been around for thousands of years. In the advancements of civilization this art fell by the wayside, being rediscovered in the early 1920's by a spiritual Japanese man, Mikao Usui who went on to establish Reiki healing centres in Tokyo.  From here Reiki has spread worldwide.  Reiki is a Japanese word; Rei-meaning "higher power" and Ki-meaning "universal life force energy"

I have thought long and hard about what to write regarding the Reiki story.  There is the 'Western' style Reiki story as told by Mrs Takata, and an 'Eastern' style - with a couple of variations on this one too - as told by Willaim Rand and Taggart King.  In the end I decided not to write a Reiki story!  A full account of this can be found on Reiki sites such as The Reiki Association, William Rands web site and Taggart's.

The bottom line for me is that when I learnt my Reiki I was given the Mrs Takata story - this is ingrained in my heart, and Reiki has worked for me.  That is not to say that I don't have full acknowledgement acceptance of the Eastern style versions of how Dr Usui rediscovered Reiki.  When I do my teaching I give Mrs Takata's story in my manual but have a supplementary manual where I give a copy of Taggarts information along with other information gained.

As with everything Reiki, which ever story you have read, or you were told, which ever 'school' of Reiki you have learnt your Reiki,  the essence of Reiki is pure intent and for many Reiki is an intangible experience, feeling,  what-ever, which is greatly, greatly cherished.

I just thank goodness for Reiki.

Reiki for the 21st century

It is my belief that we should not stand still.

If we stand still we stagnate.

Written below is MY interpretation of the Reiki Precepts, adapted by me for this day and age.

This is how I feel, it does not have to be how you feel; we all have individuality and must keep that.

So, in saying that, this is my interpretation….

Reiki for 21st century…

Just for today

Do not worry

Do not anger

Show respect

Work ethically

Be kind to all
